Our Mission

happy Haiti girl

In the 1880s ~ 1890s, Missionary Horace Grant Underwood and Missionary Henry G. Appenzeller came to Korea and they dedicated their lives to Korean society and Christianity. An American Medical Missionary Horace Allen came to Korea and founded a hospital in 1885. This hospital was named as Severance Hospital in 1904 after a generous American donor, Louis Severance, of Standard Oil. Since 1957 it has been affiliated with Yonsei University College of Medicine, and is part of the Yonsei University Health System.

The Jesus Medical Clinic in Haiti, located within Cité Soleil. Cité Soleil is an extremely impoverished and densely populated commune located in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area in Haiti. Cité Soleil originally developed as a shanty town and grew to an estimated 200,000 to 400,000 residents, the majority of whom live in extreme poverty. The area is generally regarded as one of the poorest and most dangerous areas of the Western Hemisphere and it is one of the biggest slums in the Northern Hemisphere. The area has virtually no sewers and has a poorly maintained open canal system that serves as its sewage system.

Missionary Simon Kim has built Love & Hope mission center in Cité Soleil, Haiti since the earthquake which occurred in 2010. In addition to the construction work, there are a dozen orphan support ministries, local church building ministry, wedding ministry, vocational education ministry, high schools to cultivate talents who will make a difference in the country.

As the mission center was completed in 2015, Missionary Kim’s work has become more lively and the medical ministry for the long-awaited Haitian people began to ignite. As a result, in September of 2015, a devoted team of physicians and dentists who shared the hearts that medical ministry in Cité Soleil was more important and urgent than any other ministry held the Haiti Medical Conference.

Most people in Cité Soleil, Haiti can not afford to go to a medical clinic because they barely feed themselves with minimal wages. Through the Love and Hope mission center, many short-term missionary teams from different churches and different organizations have provided medical and dental treatments to these Haitians who need medical and dental treatments desperately.

Life expectancy in Haiti is only about 50 years old. We hope through the ministry of Jesus Medical Clinic in Haiti that Haitians will live a more humane life in this God-created world. Haiti needs lot of prayers and supports especially they need medical and dental treatments. Haitians need more affordable medical clinics and hospitals.

As Severance Hospital stands alone in the heart of South Korea which was initiated by American missionaries about 130 years ago. Severance Hospital now has 7,000 employees, including 2,000 physicians and 5,000 other personnel. A total of 24,000 students have graduated from its medical school. The Severance Hospital is one of the oldest and biggest university hospitals in South Korea. It has 3,700 beds, approximately 3,000,000 outpatients and 1,000,000 inpatients annually.

We will continue to work hard and we will build Jesus Medical Clinic in Haiti as Severance Hospital in Cité Soleil, Haiti.

Thank you and God bless you!
